Diversity Schemes in Multi-hop Visible Light Communications for 6G Networks

With the fast-emerging trend of deploying Internet-of-things (IoT) in smart homes and cities, next-generation wireless systems (i.e., beyond fifth-generation (5G) mobile communications) are expected to connect a plurality devices, including machines, sensors, tablets, cameras, etc. To this end, radio frequency (RF) spectrum would fail fulfill demands such enormous data-heavy applications, as operating at RF largely suffer from data congestion interference. Based on potential Visible Light Communications (VLC) solve problem scarcity satisfy high data-rate requirements 5G systems, paper focuses utilizing VLC for IoT applications indoor environments by means adequately routing among VLCbased nodes. Operating unlicensed optical band visible light region utilizes simple Light-Emitting-Diodes (LEDs), which is health-friendly communication method. has advantages providing ultra-high bandwidth, robustness electromagnetic interference, inherent physical security. VLC, however, suffers severe short ranges line-of-sight (LoS) constraints. This proposes overcoming challenges adopting transmit diversity scheme that transmits messages over several paths. In order reduce receiver outage probability, multiple combination schemes side, namely selection combining, maximal-ratio threshold combining. The simulation results assess effectiveness proposed terms signal-to-noise-ratio probability illustrate suitability networks. show combining outperforms approximately 10% 40%, respectively.
